The main theme for my blog is geometrics.  To create simple pieces through the use of various values, bold colors, and parrtern.  All of my five piece reflect at least one of each of these concepts in one way or another.  In my charcoal drawing for example,  I used straight lines throughout that were of a various thickness and value.  In this piece I wanted to really emphasize the use of value.  Having value really brings some of these lines forward well sending some back.  It adds definition and contrast of lighting to give this piece a sense of space and depth.  This example can most clearly be seen through Bold Leaf.
Staggered lines is one of my two acrylic paintings. In this piece I wanted to experiment with simplicity.  This piece was created through using two complimentary colors to add depth and space, and two  white-wash colors, the faded yellow and simple white background, just to add a mutual color.  This piece is probably one of my most favorite pieces I have created all semester long.  To me it is simple but a closer look reveals all of these finite details.  How all the lines are of different thicknesses, the careful overlapping of the colors used to give the false image of some lines fading into the background, while at the same time coming forward due to the overlapping of some of these lines.
Bold Target is the second of my two acrylic pieces.  In this ppiece again I wanted to keep it simple, but have the finished product be really bold. I used straight black because i felt this along with some lighter colors such as the yellow and red and orange, would give a really nice contrast.  I accomplised exactly what i wanted to with this piece.  It has simple repatition with the dark like circles, but also has a pop of boldness in the colors choosen.    The jet black next to the faded yellow is a nice contrast and really is what separates this piece from the rest of my pieces for this semester in its boldness and uniqueness.
My block print also follows the structure of my theme.  There is repitition in some of the nonfiguritives lines used to outline the main focal point squiggle in the center of this piece.  Again i was able to use bold colors, the yellow background with the darker lines to create depth.  The space in the ellow background stamp comes from the darker lines coming forward, while the yellow fades to the back.
Modern Skyway is my only watercolor piece this semester.  I found it difficult to follow my usual way of painting with woatercolors b leaving some white background, because in the end my pieces just did not appear to be clean and looked mucky.  They also lacked the sharp clean edges i always envision when I think of the term geometric.  To me this term means repitition of lines,  and shapes with clean lines and solid coloring.  This piece does not have bold coloring,  or value.  What it does achieve however is simplicity.  In the background are olive colored buildings of just very simple architecture that grow smaller, and smaller.  then there is just a little lamp post and a simple outline of a figure.  This figure standing on the curb in this urban setting is meant to be a representation of myself.  How sometimes I feel as though I am the only person in the world in a busy and evergrowing matropolis. I choose not to color myself inn because I wanted to appear to be present in the painting, but also transparent at the same time.  Sometimes its as though we are present in the world and live our lives day by day month by month, and year by year, but is there any fulfillment? Its as if we are lifing our lives but with no fulfillment.  The lampost is yet another symbollic representation of a glimmer of hope that travels with us even when we appear to be transparent.  That at the end of the tunnel there is always a shinning light guiding us throuhg whatever life throws at us.  Hope is the one thing that can never be taken away even when all else seems lost, it is the one thing we have to hold onto.
MOdern Skyway is the most personal of all my pieces for this semeter.  Like all of my other pieces however, it does follow all of my goals for my theme and i feel all of them have met my theme in o
